What are some alternatives to vbulletin and invision board?

I like both vbulletin and inivision board, but are there better, less expensive alternatives?

1. Try freeforums.org and try it out for FREE and see how you like it and if it meets your requirments, then you can also upgrade to www.yournamehere.com or .org Hope it helps!
2. You may try PhpBB, it less sophisticated, but free. Or SimpleMachines (simplemachines.org) forum, which sometimes is considered more efficient. It is also free, but comes with a strange license.
3. I second the Phpbb. But be sure to install a mod for anti spammers. For some reason the bots home in on message boards and leave all sorts of links to things you will not appreciate.
